This week, I take a look at the PLATO computer system, originally developed in the 60s and refined in the 70s and 80s. This system had a touch-screen plasma display and was at least a decade ahead of the competition. The games are very hard but definitely innovative and well worth a look!

Take a look and let me know what you think about PLATO. Is the system simply underrated and ignored, or are the games simply too difficult to interest more gamers? Sound off about PLATO!

Holy Cow! The ratings for

Holy Cow! The ratings for this video are the best ever by far. Almost 300 views in one day (the other ones peaked around 150). Whatever I did, I must have done something right.

6 more subs to go to 100. :)

Geez, that's all I need, some kid riffing on my style. Come on, can't he come up with something besides "matt chat?" I did think his video was pretty funny, though. Reminded me of some of the old "You Can't Do That on Television" skits.

I just hope it doesn't mess with the search results too bad.

To be fair, "Matt Chat" is pretty simple as titles go. Even "Armchair Arcade" has some other users.

Yeah, that was one of my

Yeah, that was one of my fears when I selected it. It's just too obvious. Anyone named Matt would think of it, much like "Stan the Man" or "Mark the Shark," etc. "Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch!" etc. Bill is a bit harder for me to think of good slogans for, strangely. Maybe "Chill with Bill" or "Let's do this with Loguidice."

I am somewhat regretful that i didn't make a new account and went with "blacklily," my old moniker. That's another very common name, and it's apparently used by several rather flagrant gay gentlemen. It's not that I have anything against gay people, mind you, but I don't like the idea of someone getting me confused with these individuals.

It's probably too late to change the name of the program, though. People are searching for "Matt Chat" and "blacklily" on Youtube quite a bit to find my other videos. If I were to change it to something else, those people might never find the new episodes. I did think about a few other titles, though. What do you guys think of the following:

"Retrogaming Retrospective"
"Matt the Killer Hat and his Gamerama" (this would obviously require an accessory of some sort)
"Matt's Electronic Gaming Exposes"
"Matt Barton's not on the Carton: He's on YouTube!"
"Old Shite"
"ZMOG it's Matt Barton and some old games he likes!"
"M@ Glarez at the Warez"
"8-bitch"
"Gettin' Ol' Skool with Matt 'The Renegamer' Bartonopolis"

This video gets two thumbs

This video gets two thumbs down from me. It is obvious that you do not know the games or how to play them, no real research or knowledge. I excepted better but oh well. the music was not bad I thought it was necessary to make it more enjoyed. However one thing is that the background is not working, it is distarcting and the games are all modern. get old games or get rid of that back.

Even a response from within the PLATO community

They've made some suggestions - I think are very cool and could be used to demo the PLATO system in an even more rounded way in a MATT Chat 15-II sequel?

Heh! Well, I'm flattered

Heh! Well, I'm flattered they took notice of the video. Sure, there's always something that should have been done, etc., but it's extremely difficult getting other people involved in something like this (time zones, work ethics, etc.) Usually people don't take notice of something until after the fact--I gave up on my "information seeking posts" and so on about games I intended to review; few, if anyone, responds. However, they are willing to criticize after it goes up, of course. :)

In any case, the PLATO community seems very supportive, and it'd be great to work with them on something. I wouldn't mind delving more deeply into some of the games at a future point, particularly if I have help.

Not all of the commentary was positive.

Well not all the commentary was positive though. I've left an invitation for more contact with us on the Plato system as a reply on the thread. Lets see what happens.
