Syndicate Remake?

Matt Barton's picture

Just read on Joystiq that a big budget Syndicate remake is in the works. The original was a favorite of mine on the Amiga, so I'm excited to see the news. I hope they will go in the RTS direction rather than try to make an FPS out of it; it seems to me that the original model would work quite well with just a great audiovisual makeover. It might also be nice to ratchet up the number and complexity of the options you had to modify your cyborgs--and, by all means, keep the dark and brooding ambiance.

Unfortunately, looks like we'll be waiting a long time for this one.

Syndicate is a forgotten classic!

I had great fun with the Amiga version of "Syndicate," and I think it would translate very well as a modern game. Certainly the setting, plot, and backstory fit in very well with modern games, as well as the violence.

A FPS version of this might work! But I'm open to a better-animated isometric update of this game. It's the sort of game that probably would work especially well on portable game machines.

Looking forward to this

I am anxious to see what they do with it. I hope it is a throwback to the original style and properly maintains the same atmosphere and feel of the game. They tried to go 3D with Syndicate Wars (in quite an early, crude 3D manner), and it was terrible.

I hope they don't make this an FPS. FPS games are all the same, and there are too many of them. Use modern technology to build this game from the ground up. Make a nice, high res, better-animated isometric (nod to Rob) version of this game.

Oh and keep that suspenseful music in it. So long as we start with agents named Ripley and Hicks, we should be good...

I've heard of Syndicate Wars

I've heard of Syndicate Wars off and on but have never played it. I take it that it's not worth checking out? The reviews I found seemed lukewarm. In any case, I think it'd be neat to have a 3D world, but only if they can get the camera controls worked out. As I recall, Syndicate wasn't the sort of game that you'd want to play with poor camera controls.

Hehe, I managed to get all

Hehe, I managed to get all the way through it twice (I loved it so much). I also remember some really nice cut scenes with 3D animation.

All this has given me a hankering to go back and try it again. It's been long enough that I've forgotten most of the details.

Bullfrog rulled

Im not really sure if Bullfrog ever released a "bad" game. Sure a few so so ones, but they all had something in them to make them interesting. I want to see a remake of Powermonger, Heck a update (graphics) of popoulus would make me GIDDY! I must admit Syndicate was one of the very few Bullfrog (if maybe only one) games I didnt get very far in, was a bit brutal in learning curve if i remeber it right.

Here is a vote for DK3 right after Syndicate.
