W00t! Feature Film Documentary Filming Daily Diary - San Francisco USA - Days 3 and 4

Bill Loguidice's picture

I just wanted to post some photo and cam videos from our trip to San Francisco, California, USA, for the filming of the interviews of industry pros and legends for our upcoming feature film documentary, W00t!: The Videogame Revolution, from Lux Digital Pictures. This is days 3 and 4. Have a look and feel free to ask questions, as I'd rather respond to questions than post at length given how busy things are!

John Romero. Matt interviewed him. Twice. Then we hung out with him for hours and he treated us to a great dinner. Then we hung out with him again the next day. Nice, energetic guy, with a near photographic memory of game developer names. Seems like all of them... By the way, he loves our book, Vintage Games, so suck it down bitches! (forgive the lame reference, it's late)

Random late day GDC 09 footage, hanging out with John Romero again. Matt is seated and Bill is taking the video.

Great footage guys!

Ah, actual proof of you guys in the same photograph with some very interesting characters! Having dinner with John Romero - cool! I guess it clicked with you guys. That is nice and it sort of 'figures' because John has an extensive 'retro' career spanning from early work on the Apple II and the CBM64. He also ported games between the two 6502 powered machines.

I Remember playing a lot of ID-software games back in college/medschool especially Doom and Quake over a coax cable novell lite network. These games made be get a 486 way back. John was involved in the best early PC game titles in my opinion: Commander Keen, Castle Wolfenstein, Doom 1 & 2, Quake, Heretic & Hexen. These games are to blame for the fact that I just continue to long for mouse/keyboard controller schemes on the consoles when it comes to FPS games.

Have a very good time over there in San Francisco. A great town. Lovely Apple store viewable right out of your hotel-window!
