117 Bonus Images Released for Vintage Games Book

Bill Loguidice's picture

Well, after I put a considerable amount of work into getting all of this stuff uploaded and captioned on and off for the past month or so, I'm happy to say that the bonus images for our book, Vintage Games: An Insider Look at the History of Grand Theft Auto, Super Mario, and the Most Influential Games of All Time, are now available. That's 117 images - just like the nine bonus chapters and their images - not found in the full color book (we reserve the right to add more images in the future). You can enjoy the images and their captions now or wait for the full experience after your copy of the book arrives. You did order already, right? ;-)

Go to the book's official page at http://www.armchairarcade.com/vintagegames and click on "BONUS IMAGES" for a selectable chapter-by-chapter listing. The next major update will come in early March after Gamasutra posts bonus chapter number three of nine, that one on "Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (1999): Videogame Ollies, Grabs and Grinds", followed by the book's actual worldwide release later that month. Enjoy and comments are always welcome!

Thanks. I think you and I are now officially done with work on "Vintage Games" outside of promotion when something significant happens regarding it. Turning what was supposed to be only about three months of work into well over six months+ probably indicates some type of mental defect, but hopefully everyone appreciates the extra effort in the end!

I think it was worth it.

I think it was worth it. Most people will probably never know or appreciate all the work that went into it, but the few who do--those are the ones that matter.

Best customer support!

Even though the book isn't available yet you are already publishing bonus content. This is the way it should be: Best customer support and great marketing!

I hope Matt will find enough time to offer that to us loyal "Dungeons & Desktops"-customers, too! ;-) ***

take care,

LOL, yeah, Bill is much

LOL, yeah, Bill is much savvier with the whole flickr thing than I am, unfortunately. I have always meant to get some of those images up, though, but a number of problems have stymied me--especially a fatal hard drive crash in which I pretty much lost everything. Still, I can always go back through my emails and find the original screenshots. Maybe I'll do that.

Well, shucks. I couldn't

Well, shucks. I couldn't find them in my email and finally figured out what happened--I used "yousendit" to send them all in a huge .zip file, and naturally that's gone now. I'm afraid I simply don't have them anymore on my hard drive. However, I will ask Kevin from the publisher if he has them available.

You know, I just thought of

You know, I just thought of the perfect guy to talk about game audio...The Fat Man! He's got a great personality and is ripe interview material if I've ever seen it. Probably looks great on film, too, and played a vital role in the hardware as well as the software industry.

Plus, I interviewed him before (for that game audio article going way back), and he was great.

I just wish I could think of

I just wish I could think of somebody who embodied game graphics and animation the way Sanger does for game audio. There must be some outspoken figure out there somewhere who would be the perfect fit for that chapter. Sachs is close, but I don't think he's made the industry-wide impact I'm looking for. Maybe Michael Abrash? Damn, I wish Seb were still on these forums; I'm sure he must know several good people.

Abrash

Abrash is one of the _the_ graphics programmers. Good story about him re-entering games development with his stint at id software, too.
