It looks like the PS3 online experience is about to get very competitive with the new XBox Live Experience. The new Playstation Home looks very cool from what I can tell, with avatars that look much more realistic than the NXE, looking much like "Second Life." If the PS3 online service remains free, it might possibly be a "killer app" that Sony needs to compete with the XB360!

Here's a link to a more detailed CNet article:

I know, I've been posting a lot of links lately... One of the benefits/curses of having a "My Yahoo!" page. :-)

(P.S. for some reason, I posted a link to a football article rather than the CNet article! I corrected this and the above link is now correct. Sorry for the inconvenience to anyone previously!)

Same here - except for the cracked rib!

Say Rob, how on earth did you crack that rib? I love asking embarrassing questions!

I don't know why the "Penny Arcade" comic had me aching with laughter, but it did! Not only was my abdomen hurting, thanks to my cracked rib (don't ask how I cracked my rib, it's embarassing), but my cheeks were aching too! I'm laughing as I type this! I haven't laughed this hard since I saw the movie "Catwoman." :-)

Perhaps it's the thought that Sony spent millions of dollars developing "Home," only for it to turn into a soulless "purgatory" for aimless gamers, wandering the virtual world like zombies looking for the slightest entertainment fix! Just the image... I can't... stop... laughing!! The fact that Sony would sentence its user base to "Purgatory" is just hilarious! I'm still laughing! :-D

Uh, oh... who are these guys with the straight-jacket? Padded cell??? What are you guys talking about? What the......

As an owner of all three

As an owner of all three systems, I can say with strong certainty that the Xbox online experience will remain ahead of anything that Sony or Nintendo is able to do in terms of cohesiveness and speed. I'm certainly willing to be proven wrong by Sony with Home, but based on what they've come up with so far I have strong doubts it will have the necessary performance and integration. Also, while Microsoft's XNE is menu-based, Sony's Home is avatar-based. I'm not sure walking everywhere is better than just scrolling through some fancy visual menus. I'm sure there will be a way to not have to do the avatar thing, but we'll have to see what that is.
