Funny

The original A-ha video is considered the best music video ever made, and I agree. They don't make them like that anymore. The spoof singer did a great job, too.

As for the "Rick-Rolling," The Family Guy dog does a better cover of "Never Gonna Give You Up" than Barry Manilow does!

This reminds me of a joke I like to play on "cool guys..."

Cool Guy: Hey, Rob, what are you listening to?

Me (listening to my MP3 player with headphones): Ah, you wouldn't like it. It's a song about a murder in a nightclub. A bar fight over a girl in a nightclub ends with the girl's boyfriend getting blown away with gunfire... the girl then goes insane.

Cool guy: Cool! I love that hardcore S%*@!!!! Let me hear it!

..... at this point, I hand the MP3 player to them right before the songs chorus: "Copa... Copacabana!!!!" I then enjoy a cruel laugh as the mark contorts himself in Barry Manillow-induced agony!!! Muhahaha!!! I love to mock what's supposedly cool! :-)

(BTW, yes, my summary is pretty much what "Copacabana" is about!)

The lyrics are literally what is going on in the video. Hence a literal translation of the video. Pretty clever if you ask me and pretty close singing to the original all things considered.

I like Risk Astley as well, along with Ray Parker, Jr., Billy Ocean, and other paragons of the 80s. Indeed, I like to go once a month or so to a local bar that features a decent 80s cover band called Brat Pack Radio. Fun show with lots of 80s gaming and music references.

Barry Manilow does Rick-Rolling

Thanks to http://www.retrothing.com/2008/12/getting-rickrol.html for the heads-up.

I'm embarrassed to say that I always like Rick Astley's music back then and even don't mind it now, even though it's a classic gag these days (Family Guy did a particularly good spoof). Manilow's take is very flat, but then what would you expect!
