Well, I guess you've probably heard the news by now that Shane R. Monroe is ending his ten-year stint (wow, is it really that long?) as host of Retrogaming Radio. I'm not happy about this news, but I respect Shane's decision and can understand why he'd want to quit while the show was going strong. We at Armchair Arcade owe a lot to Shane, since we met using his forums. Shane was also a big help in promoting our books (both D&D and Vintage Games), and has always been a friendly and helpful guy.

I posted this blog to give us a chance to wax a bit about our favorite moments of the show and express some gratitude to Shane for doing such a good job. I know I was happy when Shane read one of my emails on his show, using it as the springboard for one of his famous rants. It was also fun slamming modern gaming and such on his forums--ah, just to be in the midst of all those Amiga and Commodore fans!

RGR - Still there in a way

He actually had three shows going at one point: RGR, Car Talk and DSR (Dual Screen Radio on the Nintendo DS). RGR is going to what sounds like a 2 - 4 time a year format that may or may not involve themes (like a show on the latest retrogaming books). He'll regularly continue to do Car Talk, which will involve some casual videogame talk along with everything else it typically does. I think he's still undecided about the future of Dual Screen Radio, though that was a co-host situation.

Vintage Games book!

:-(

Listened to every show, although the space in between shows became bigger and bigger. It really takes a lot of time and effort to do something like Shane does. I hope he will continue is broadcasts in one way or another. I am going to to miss RGR that is for sure.

Meh, no big loss...

Show was cool until Shane became a big Nintendo fanboy. Shane would gush over the DS so much, you'd think he was being paid by the Nintendo PR people.
