What I'm doing games-wise

davyK's picture

Playing : have got back into Mario Kart 64 - never did win all the cups - well, during the week I finally won gold in all cups at 150cc and just won gold today in Mushroom Cup Mirror/Extra mode. Holy God though : Toad's Turnpike (Flower Cup) is a nightmare in mirror mode - racing against the flow of traffic!

Developing : trying to get myself to move on my Super Robot sequel (107 downloads from www.codersworkship.com !!!) in Blitz Basic, and a new super improved version of Video Poker in Visual Basic 6) I'm coding too much in work at the moment , so I can't face it when I get home.

Writing : STILL haven't finished my effort on puzzle game genres - writing manuals in work (to document all that code I'm writing!) so , again, can't face it when I get home.

Lame excuses or what?

What I'm doing games-wise

DavyK mentioned Mario Kart 64 -- I finished it and I think the most challenging track was Rainbow Road. It took me a full week of messing around to finally finish the course and get enough points to win Gold in the Cup. Now I'm just kicking butt using R.O.B with the BLS. Talk about total domination!!! It's very addictive and I find myself playing it everytime I have a free moment.

Can understand about not wanting anything to do work-related when you get home.

Since my boss is also into gaming, just recently, he keeps saying we need to bring the old Xbox in, network two of them as a LAN and display on our wide screen plasma's....Halo2 on a big old plasma....would be fun but not sure how the upper mgmt types would like it!!!!

That's funny - I found

That's funny - I found Rainbow Road one of the easier tracks - at least in the normal classes - 50-150cc, I haven't tried it yet in Extra mode.

It seems that in extra mode some tracks are mirrored while others are reversed...would have thought that having the option to select either would have given even more replayability...

...and what about those TT target times for unlocking the 3 course ghosts? I am nowhere near getting 1'30'' on Mario Raceway....

TT Target Times?

I must have missed something as I'm not sure what you mean by subject. What's the deal with the 3 course ghosts? I thought I had finished the game (I did get the end game credits once I nailed the last mirror course in Gold. Cheers

Those times are for the TT

Those times are for the TT mode in Mario Kart 64 - wasn't that what we were talking about?

I'm not really into handhelds - haven't bought one since the original Gameboy, but the DS is tempting. I'd have to get one cheap though.

Mario Kart for the DS

I guess I wasn't focusing on the 64 part of your replies as I was talking about the DS, hahaha. Spent a good half hour last night looking for the tracks mentioned before...of course I couldn't find them. I finally beat somebody on the www, which felt good after losing something like 8 straight!!!!

Oh, I saw the DS on sale at Best Buy for $124.00....

I'm still debating about the

I'm still debating about the DS Lite. I certainly would appreciate brighter screens and I can give my wife the current one with Super Princess Peach and New Mario Bros., but we'll see. Maybe once all the hub-bub dies down and I see a good bundle deal.

DS Lite and other Extras

The recent GamePro magazine mentioned features for the DS that will be available in Japan, and I hope here in the States, to the tune of web-based access with a browser capable of using both screens. This would be a good thing, especially if it was easier to use than the web browser on the PSP.

The button placement on the DS Lite would certainly make for less fatigued hands/fingers. The screen being brighter is good as well as long as it doesn't affect battery life. Mine seems to last forever on a charge (original DS).

I still suck at this game. But it's fun. It's taking forever to find opponents on the web though. Perhaps we should create a friends list over here!
