Big Brain 64x64 pixels Do I dare to try out Spore on my PC or do I wait for the 360 version to be released?
Well I went to the EA website and found out that Spore is available as digital download. Cool! But will it run on my machine. I clicked on system specs - which always are minimum system specs and the following popped up on the screen:

• 2,6 GHz Pentium D CPU, of 1,8 GHz Core 2 Duo, of gelijkwaardig.

As you will probably will have noticed this is the Dutch text ands it consists of a large number of computer parts and various limitations or conditions under which the game may function. No need to translate it into English here - it's hard to comprehend if you are not familiar with the exact hardware contents of your PC.
Hard to tell how the game will actually function on my system despite the fact that I do have some knowledge of the inner workings of my machine. Two nice tools that might help you to figure out what is actually inside your computer without the need to open up the case are
cpu-z and gpu-z. Just google them and you'll be able to download them.

This is what my system looks like through cpu-z's eyes:

SPORE is Worth getting

If you guys do get Spore for PC, please DO but be mindfull about installing the latest update as some users have reported it to be buggy in some cases. Another update will probably remedy it.

I find myself growing quite attached to my carnivorous purple gecko like create. I am facing other wonderful creatures that I need to hunt instead of talk to and turn into allies. Hmmm I guess I am having to get used to letting go of my creature and let it evolve into something else. The carnivorous route might not be the best route for me - perhaps it's time for a world catastrophe and me starting anew with a herbivorous creature instead.

I saw that too and am happy about it. Now it would be nice if all those pirates went out and actually bought the thing now to reward EA for doing the right thing. Fat chance though...

did you see the 4 or 5 or 6

did you see the 4 or 5 or 6 start playthrough vids?

this actually changed my mind on it! I was impressed.

One thing I didnt like from what I saw was such an increase in firearms, to my mind firearms shoud be 'rare' not common type but the PAX08 videos look... well.. promising.. and I'm in the NMA camp side of things :)

I'm very skeptical about the new Fall Out. I'm not sure if any of the original team are involved--that'd change my opinion if they were. My fear is that it's just a lame effort to cash in on a franchise with some enduring legacy. I think their energies would be better spent creating a new game than trying to rehash something, especially if it's got to be redone in 3D and what-not. Trying to stay somehow true to the original is just going to bog them down.

I've played the demo on the 360 and was impressed with it as well. I've held off buying it, because I'm up to my ears in FPS games I still have to work through, though I will likely get it at some point (maybe if it's a bit enhanced on the PS3, that version). It's among that elite group of FPS games that has the dramatic story and atmosphere that makes the experience all the better.

Speaking of Fallout, I wonder how Fallout 3 will turn out. I've decided not to get the collector's edition, though it's kind of neat. I'm going to hold off on buying it period, though I'm sure I'll want it at some point.

The wife and I have been playing Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II, PS2 version, on the PS3. Lots of fun, with some interesting improvements over the first game. The only thing I don't like are the unlimited arrows. That takes away some key strategy.

Installing Spore on my PC - part II

Installation went rather smooth - bumped into the 'new video driver required' thing.
The game ended up being very playable after I updated the graphics drivers - albeit in medium graphics settings only. I totally love the whole concept of this game. Worth every penny/dime/nickel/cent

My Spore name is LactobacillusP.
