Welcome to the start of the new Armchair Arcade!

Since the beta test was going so well, we decided to switch everyone over to the new Website early. While we still have lots of work to do, we wanted to get everyone over and discussing things as soon as possible. While we have forums on this new platform, we really think a better way is discussing things directly with the "blog" entries, so give it a try. We'll be tweaking things as time goes on and look forward to creating new articles and print issues very soon. Welcome!

Please note that the old Website is still there and accessible via the "Armchair Arcade Classic" link. We haven't locked that site as read only and hopefully we won't have to as we'd like to conduct all new business going forward here. Make yourself heard and have fun!

Welcome, Beta Testers!

Greetings, everyone! I hope you're all as excited as we are about the new Armchair Arcade. There are plenty of new features here, but you're looking at a "rough draft" of the new site at the moment. What we have under the hood here is a program called Drupal. It's a very popular CMS and is used by the Onion and other well-known online mags. I've used it quite a bit before and come to like it, though I can appreciate the difficulties some of us will have in making the switch from e107.

What I'd like to ask everyone to do is be on the lookout for bugs and such and report them. Just try to be descriptive enough that we can duplicate the error on our end and (hopefully!) get it working. Cecil and I have been doing a great deal of bug-swatting for months (including trying to protect the site from Turkish hackers!), but there's probably more bugs. We need your help to find and resolve them.

You'll notice also that the site doesn't look as slick (yet) as the old one. If you have an idea for how the look of the site can be enhanced, please share it! We're really listening here and need your help. None of us are graphic designers, so, if you have expertise in this area, please consider offering us some suggestions (please be nice!). If you'd like to go beyond suggestions and actually design some graphics or themes for the site, let us see your ideas.

Finally, as always, remember that none of us are getting paid for this work. Most of our "payment" comes from the knowledge that we have so many good folks enjoying our work. It means a lot for us to see people commenting on the news posts and just being enthusiastic about AA's future. Your enthusiasm and positive thoughts really feed our energy and inspire us to do our very best. Thanks!

And, yes, I'm back! I've finally managed to complete my dissertation and land a job as assistant professor in St Cloud, Minnesota. To put it mildly, my stress levels have decreased exponentially! :-)

Blogging - We'd Love for you to do it too!

Every AA member has the ability to blog about anything that they're interested in by default. In fact, we'd prefer you did that in most cases over using the forums, which are there for more casual purposes. The best part is that we have the ability to "bump" the best blog entries to the front page, which goes out to the world via our RSS feed, and will also likely get the most comments/discussion. In any case, we hope you guys try everything out and hope you all stick around as a lot more good stuff is coming.

I hope you're taking lots of pictures, Mark. You don't know how badly I wish I were there with you! I love archaeology. I've listened to both of these sets of lectures by the TC.
