7th Link

I started playing the 7th Link last night to get a feel for it, to see if this is the game I'd like to blog next.

It feels big, and from some of the meager info I can find online, I don't really know if I want to spend the '200 hours'! required to play the game. Thats a lot of hours and I'm sporadic at best to playing.

I want the easy thrill of playing something I know and winning again because I know it inside and out :) not the hard cheese one needs to slog through because one is in the total dark.

Some of the info I have found on the game relating to some clues makes things sound very.. abstract.

I'm still undecided if I'll start on this game or something else.

At least the 7th link developer is still around and could maybe be persuaded to answer questions ;)

But.. its an ultima clone that needs to be played!

Must tidy up all my Gates of Delirium loose ends first tho...

Coco3; Seventh Link

Yes, the Seventh Link was also an exclusive Color Computer game. However, it was written for the CoCo3, which had expanded graphics and colors, on par with the Commodore 64 and better in some areas.

Unfortunately, by the time of the CoCo3's release, the 16-bit machines were coming out. Tandy did seem to recognize this, since a big early selling point on the CoCo3 was some impressive games. The Super Pitfall cartridge was always in use at Radio Shack, and quite impressive in execution. (Although I eventually turned off the music, it got annoying REAL fast.) My brother got both Koronis Rift and Rescue on Fractalus from LucasArts for it, both very impressive games that unfortunately have been largely forgotten. There were some dud games, though, like Castle of Tharrogad, which purported to be a sequel to Dungeons of Daggorath but is NOT written by the same crew and is incredibly pathetic in comparison.

The Seventh Link looks, feels, and plays like an Ultima 4 clone, from what little I've experimented with it. The original game apparently came with a fairly detailed background story; but I haven't been able to locate the manual. I'm a bit worried about some of the walkthroughs I've read online where they reference "town 3" or "dungeon 4"... did nothing have names? Even Gates of Delirium had that!

No, the towns and dungeons

No, the towns and dungeons dont have names. It is indeed Town A and Town B. Dungeon C, F etc.
The planets appear to have names.

Ive not found a full walkthrough, just stuff from a coco/pc 'disk' magazine. Enough to get to the second planet I think.

I've seen some screenshots and it doesn't look bad - even though - again -
much is "borrowed" from Ultima.

However, "Town A" etc. is just pathetic if the game actually got released.

take care,

Update?

Hey Stu,

How's the Seventh Link coming along? I assume you probably got caught up in other things... which is cool. I haven't had much chance to work on my CRPG in some months, feeling really guilty about it.

Yeah I've no time lately,

Yeah I've no time lately, just got 8 baby chicks that need someone to build them a coop within the next couple of weeks. Working on my house, and playing with wife + son and doing some CRPG work.

Ive played around a bit on the first level of 7th Link but nothing enough to start blogging I dont think.

I started playing around

I started playing around with 7th link, and so far I'm really liking it. I think one of the huge differences with this and GOD is the start location really sucks you in, there is a lot to do right at the start. The down side is it took a few attemtps because it has a food clock and there are chests for the taking.. if you know where they are.. once you have them and get some food you can start ernestly exploring the start castle, aka 'A'.

I need to start taking notes to write up a first part... so far, so good.
