Xbox keeps upping the ante with respect to quality games. Within the last month I've played and finished COD4, and more recently, Mass Effect, by BioWare. It was so good I'm playing it again in the next difficulty setting. I never would have thought an RPG of this caliber would have been available on the 360, but I'm proven wrong again.

You've got the usual character classes to pick from, as well as a Tiger Woods-like way to customize the facial, body, etc., features of the character. You can play as a male or female and you end up over the course of the game having AI companions of which you can pick 2 at a time to accompany you on missions.

You've got a vast galaxy to explore by going through the primary story line, or, choosing any of the side quests that abound in the game.

The story line is outstanding and interacting with your companions and AI is smooth and feels like you're right there in the game. I had conversations with the AI companions sometimes 20 minutes at a time. Their stories are interesting, funny and depending on whether you take a renegade or paragon (good guy) approach, will dictate how they and the story react.

You switch between third and first person in battle, sort of like Gears of War. You pull in on the left trigger to go to first person mode where you zoom in on your target. It sounded kind of strange at first, but works really well. A few time we were sneaking around on a planet and one of the GETH bad guys popped around a corner and scared me to death!!

BioWare is reporting that the next chapter of Mass Effect is in production.

The game is deserving of its score of 10 out of 10 and I highly recommend it.

Game Guide Recommendation

I recommend highly buying the Prima Game Guide. Not so much for the walkthrough, but for the information on the selections you make prior to starting the campaign. It is overwhelming but you soon get the hang of moving around the Citidel, the planets and your very own space ship, the Normandy!

Remember, pick your character class carefully and Liara is your friend!

Cheers/Frank

I love how the character choices I've made for my female avatar are interwoven - with voice acting - directly into the story, and how obviously whether you choose female or male, you character also has full voice acting. Impressive and a real sci-fi storyline...
