I think it is part real part 'enhanced'

Parts of it are real, but I think large parts are 'enhanced' by borrowing imagery created in other apps.

Is it real?

I love Pixel graphics and do enjoy dabbling around with pixel drawing software. Computer art in it's rawest form. Reminds me of that Koala Paint program on the C64 which I used quite a bit to create graphics for my programs.

I myself like the raw pixel editing quite a bit

MS Paint - A hacker culture like any other I suppose

It's certainly possible it's fake, but I'm aware of a sub-culture of MS-Paint artists who take a certain pride in using the relatively underpowered graphics package to create true works of art.
