To answer Mat, this is for the print issue, not Web version of Issue 8. It will be a POD through Cafe' Press. In order to make it financially viable for potential buyers, it must be less than 100 pages or top out at 100 pages. It will be a color cover, perfect bound, with black and white pages. It will be book quality, smaller than a typical mass market magazine. There will be $0 out of pocket expenses for us. We can earn anywhere from $1 to whatever per purchase, but I don't think we can exceed $1 for it to be a buyable purchase for our readership, particularly when you factor in the cost of shipping for the buyer.
I envisioned it as a literal "best of" - the exact articles available online in a print version. The only extra work would be the layout and another edit to make sure everything is clean. It seems to me the most economical use of our time rather than extending it.
I think our greatest impact will be a concurrent release of that and Issue 8. This "best of" will also be a "forever" product, always available.
Once both of those hit, I wanted to leverage the goodwill and try to land us a magazine publishing deal.
Of course all of the above were my ideas, I could be way off base, but that's what I assumed we were talking about the whole time.
And yes, the rest of the articles need to be coverted to this Website. We also should figure a way to incorporate the mini-descriptions from the old Website for each of the articles.
As for it being as inclusive as it is, if we find we hit or exceed 100 pages, we can start to cut articles and save them for a volume 2. We won't know how it will all lay until I do the desktop publishing part of it. I suspect there are too many articles and we can in fact make at least two volumes to start. In any case, I purposely avoided any articles done by non-AA staffers. We can worry about that at a future date.
Any cash we earn from the print issue or issues would go into the AA pool. I'll probably create a new Paypal account that we all can access. The good thing is that any money held in the Paypal account earns interest.
