Almost all the comic book movies have the "pay off" if you wait through the credits.. movie theaters hate um.. cant turn the lights on and start cleaning. If you watch a movie in a big chain theater, if you sit a short bit (during credits) and the lights dont go on.. somthing is at end of movie. I did a bit of marthon watching this weekend , between Diablo addiction. Watched battleship (better then I expected, but the first 30 minutes are PAINFULL they are so corny/bad), pretty average Transforemer like action movie.. action for action, no real story, The Gray (liked this even if wolves are not like that), The Last Sherlock Holmes (love how knocking a character off is not an issue), oh.. and John Carter.. as a HUGE fan of the books, I'm really sad this one failed so hard, other then the EWOK* problem it held up pretty well.. to much liberty with the storyline, but held fairly well to the original. Effects are getting excellent.. in John carter a movie with 12 foot tall 4 armed aliens.. i never felt it looked crap.. well actully the very first jumping stuff (when he gets to mars) looked crap.. but otherwise i really liked.. of course as i say, i was a fan of the books.
EWOK- credit this to Lucas, putting cute characters to sell toys in movie. Johan Carter has a dog like thing that i do not remeber from books, but I did read them almost 30 years ago.
It actually amazed me how many people left as soon as the credits started. Odd, unless they already saw the film or were clueless to how at the very least the Marvel franchise films worked.
As for the "Princess of Mars" book, I read most of it relatively recently (maybe a year or so ago) and I do recall a faithful dog-like creature (it was from Mars, so it was alien, but definitely meant as a loyal dog-like thing). It certainly wasn't Ewok-like (I seem to recall it being rather gross in the book), so it's quite possible it was made toy friendly. I'll check out John Carter when it hits the home...
