I never really got into

I never really got into Tempest or the clones. Like I said, Gyruss was my favorite of the lot. The gameplay of Tempest is cool to me on an abstract level, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe just a bit too abstract for my tastes!

That said, it definitely has that definitive classic arcade vibe to it, right along with Asteroids, Battlezone, etc.
