My, my, hard to believe it's already episode 4 and we're four months into this. I'm sure that next time we turn around, it'll be episode 12, and we'll be celebrating our first anniversary. As you've probably noticed, we've been honing our skills and experimenting quite heavily to find a winning formula, and I think everything came together quite well in this episode. Having such a fun short story to read was a big plus for me, though I did wish that I could have read all of our entries. There were so many good ones! If you didn't see them before, go here to read them all, including several by AA staff!
I'm sure you'll like Mark's energetic opening segment, and probably (like me) wish you were there with him and Seb at the retro-fair. He posted some videos about it earlier, which you can see here. I'm so angry that those nitwits wouldn't let him film there! Why the heck not? It's an outrage. Oh, well, at least Mark doesn't seem too upset about it, but it was such a missed opportunity. I can't even begin to understand the rationale for banning videos there.
Christina is probably the foremost expert we have for talking about active gaming, and it's always a pleasure to hear a truly well-researched and expert opinion on these topics.
Oh, boy, and here comes MaximumRD! Even though he might think his Amiga experience was affected by his Canadian residence, it was the same sort of story growing up in Louisiana. Local support for the Amiga quickly dried up, and we had to resort almost completely to mail-order. Then even the major mail-ordering catalogs dropped Amiga support! Grrr...
Chris cues in with another heady issue about videogame violence, focusing on the Supreme Court. It always disappoints me that so many oldsters want to ban something they don't understand, but I guess that's just life. I'll be happy when my generation starts taking over congress, we're bound to see some major changes and really great developments (oh, please bring back a real space program!).
My interview with Shane was a smashing success, if I do so say myself. Of course, the beauty of interviewing someone as talented as Shane is that he expertly interviewed himself! That's right; all I had to do was give him a cue or two and let the man talk. No sound bites here! Nope; just good ol' Shane at his best, waxing eloquently on all the topics we retrogamers hold dear. I dare you not to like this segment!
Finally, we get to hear from Bill on a truly bizarre old game, Sub Mission. This game would actually delete characters from the disk if you did not succeed! How...barbaric! It also shipped with an audio cassette that was required listening; Bill lets us hear some of that hilarious audio. It's amazing to consider crazy experiments like this and just how unlikely something like this would be in today's market!
I will be extremely angry if you do not comment on this episode, but not as angry as the GC. Mark couldn't contain it any longer, and sent it to Rob...That's good news for Europeans, but now it's closer than ever to the American border. If I were you, *I would comment.* Otherwise, you might wake up one morning to find yourself kissing a time piece from your worst nightmares!
