Unfortunately, anything like a MMORPG that I pay a monthly fee for comes with a built-in obligation to play it regularly, something I can't commit to. I don't mind paying ~$50 for a whole year of Xbox Live Gold, as I'm assured of getting value from even sporadic use. I'd love to jump into a good MMORPG, but I wouldn't want the guilt or pressure of the commitment. I realize there are a few free games in the genre, but between the time requirements to get much joy out of it and a few other hurdles, I don't think it will ever be all that much more popular than they are now (which frankly is pretty darn popular and financially successful)...
