I am so reluctant to try it because the setup/download patch procedure is just horrendous and then there is the fact that you really need to invest an awful lot of time in this game in order to enjoy it.
The setup and download isn't too bad... it's usually the worst when you're far enough from the last expansion that it takes awhile to download the latest incremental patch. It's a one time thing, though.
As for "needing to invest a lot of time in order to enjoy it", if that was a fact, nobody would play WoW at all! In truth, what makes WoW so good is it's starting game. Leveling up from level one has a satisfactory feeling of accomplishment that carries you for quite a few levels. In the old days, it petered out around level 20 and got really slow, but since they flattened the leveling cap, it's been consistently good. Actually, the worst issue for starting players is probably the crowds and griefers of the opposing faction who have nothing better to do than slaughter quest-NPC's in the starting zones.
Now, if all you care about is hardcore PvP or raiding, then yes, you do have to level a character to 80 before you can really experience that. I only have one level 80 myself because I find both those activities boring and pointless. Before the last expansion, you could do a little Battlegrounds (PvP) grinding and get some decent epic gear for almost no time investment, but the latest expansion made it so HOURS of grinding is necessary, so I don't even bother anymore.

Now that I can agree with. Any MMO is definitely a "consumptive" activity, you won't be writing or creating things while you're gaming. And if you have a wife and children too, well, gaming has to come third. It BETTER come third. :)
