I've got the last edition regular Aluminum Unibody MacBooks just before they made all the Alu Unibody ones MacBook PROs. I maxed out the specs on my regular MacBook and apart from the missing fire wire it is just like a MacBook Pro 13" in every other respect. Excellent system and I am sure Christina will totally love it.
Is she going to keep OS X as the main OS? When I first got it I dual booted with Windows via bootcamp but it turned out that I wasn't using Windows enough to justify keeping a separate Windows partition on the drive. I used OS X more than Windows and currently I occasionally boot into Parallels Windows 7 RC for the odd game of Geometry Wars on Steam. And for the rest of my Windows apps I actually use CrossOver Games/Office which is a very user friendly and compatible Wine implementation.
With OS X the battery life is better than with Windows XP/Vista. I am not sure about the battery life on Windows 7, perhaps this has improved. The bootcamp driver disc (Snow Leopard) does provide all drivers for Windows Vista/7 and all hardware works properly. On Vista Bootcamp I did notice higher working temperatures than with OS X.
