I'm not really too enthused about Ghostbusters III. I didn't like II for the same reason. My thought is that Ghostbusters was great because it was new and really refreshing. Everything came together in a very nice package; greater than the sum of its parts. I just don't think you can do that movie again, or a sequel, or whatever, and capture the same magic. I'd much rather see that talent harnessed for a totally different kind of movie. Let's see Ramis, Murray, and Akroyd do something totally new. These guys are amazingly talented and must have thousands of great ideas. I'd be much more excited about that than revisiting Ghostbusters.
I agree with you on Ghostbusters II. It struck me as a lazy, going-through-the-motions cash-in on the first movie, and had little of the charm of the first one. But I think this is one franchise that might actually benefit from a third one, seeing as they've had 20 years to come up with fresh ideas, and I'm sure the actors can still conjure up that old charm. There's plenty of room left in the Ghostbusters universe for more stories, and with today's special FX technology, it won't break the bank like the FX of Ghostbusters II nearly did.
By the way, you may not know this (not many people do), but there was a Saturday morning live-action TV series aimed at kids called "The Ghostbusters" that was on in the 1970's, long before the movie came out. I used to watch it as a kid. The characters were different (one of them was a gorilla!), but it was basically the same idea. Apparently, the movie production company outright ripped off the idea, right down to the title! Here's a YouTube link for a more in-depth story about it:
I remember next to nothing about the show, but I remembered the gorilla.
Anyhow, I'm glad you're considering doing an "Autoduel" episode in the future. Like The Loguidice, I played this one like mad back in the day, both on the Apple II and Atari 800. It's one of those games that I think could really be a good candidate for a modern update! It was an RPG, but you drove a car and blew things up. How can you go wrong with that!
