The biggest stumbling block with the publishers for a print version (and remember, this was several years back when the industry was still viable) was that we had no sales staff in place. We needed that first to be able to get closer to inking a deal. All we could offer was the editorial expertise, which wasn't enough. We also had a larger staff back then.
