Hey Rob

You have the same CD-i that I do! ....should we be excited about that? I am not really sure.

First off, I never really paid much attention to that extra port in the back of the unit near the A/V out. Power output? Interesting. I wonder if it is covered anywhere on this website - http://cdii.blogspot.com/ I recommend checking out that site if you haven't seen it before. There is another website out there with a ridiculous volume of information about CD-i, however I do not have a link handy.

Those games that you have multiple discs of may actually be multi-disc games. I know 7th Guest is a 2 disc game for the PC. I may have it for 3DO, however my 3DO games are boxed up at the moment - otherwise, I would check. I partially own Burn Cycle. This game is rather interesting as it comes with two discs - the game and the soundtrack. Unfortunately, I only received the soundtrack in the CD-i lot I bought off of ebay that included Burn Cycle. I hear it is a really good game. I tried burning an ISO to try it out, but I would encounter read errors about three minutes into the game. Perhaps you have a game disc and a soundtrack? I do not know if those demonstration discs are full games or not. Are they? I have no knowledge of that particular aspect of the CD-i era. Demos nowadays are easily stripped down versions of the full game. I have no idea if demonstration disc means "pack-in" in the days of CD-i or not. I'll assume they are demos unless you say otherwise.

The CD-i versions of games such as Space Ace and Dragon's Lair are VASTLY superior to their counterparts released by ReadySoft for the Sega CD and 3DO platforms. I am always amazed at the jump in quality when I put Space Ace in my CD-i. I have the original disc for Space Ace, however I do not own the cardboard/manuals. I guess my CD-i collection is rather anemic. Back to the game itself, I suppose you can pick up the blu-ray of Space Ace and Dragon's Lair these days. With that acknowledgment out of the way, the CD-i version is otherwise one of the better ways to go, imo.

As a bit of a final note regarding the CD-i and some particular games, I find that two of the Zelda games (Zelda: Wand of Gamelon and Link: Faces of Evil) to be closer to decent than I think most people do. It isn't that I have played through them and enjoy them, but I think the games could have been a LOT better had the controls and hit detection been implemented a bit better. Sure, there are other complaints - but I think these games were closer to mildly amusing than they were close to being a complete waste of time. If only they had put some more effort and well....logic into their development.

Oh! You probably already know this, but use the speed switch to help menu navigation in the CD-i OS a bit easier. It puts an accelerator on your pointer so the D-pad feels a bit more like a mouse when moving the cursor around.
