It is really creepy but this type of minimalistic gameplay - compared to today's RPGs - really is growing on me. I am convinced there is something wrong with me because of that. But the games do need to be fair. What usually bugs the hell out of me is the 'grinding' (endless searching or going back to the same places) which also transleted to today's RPGs / MMORPGS for some reason. Probably it is supposed to an essential part of the RPG-game-type.
I have to agree and I think it has a lot to do with how approachable the top-down view is over first person or even isometric. Everything is clearly visible and you get a real sense of place with visuals like that. It's a shame that that classic viewpoint is kind of a lost art.
