What I don't understand is why there's a stigma associated with men carrying purses. Why is that considered "gay" or less masculine by some?
I don't consider me excessively macho but I'd rather lose an arm before I decorate myself with something like this shoulder-strap monstrosity in Bills link!
Every case with straps sucks, IMHO. Regardless of the sex, even though I have a "gay example":
A friend and schoolmate of mine came out of his closet after his parents threw him out at the age of 18 or 19 and suddenly he openly featured some of the classic gay attributes (slightly nasal way of speaking, sophisticated arrogance) and stuff like a small, shiny leather bag with a hand strap. Perhaps it *was* a classic gay fashion at that time (end of the eighties).
However, I was a fan of coolness since I was around thirteen or fourteen - just having discovered Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry and spaghetti western movies. For me this was and still is the epitome of coolness - especially the first Dirty Harry movie and of course the man with no name. I asked myself often back then: "Would Dirty Harry do this? Would the man with no name say that?"
You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do you think Dirty Harry would wear a man-bag?" Well, do ya, punk?
So in my opinion those bags aren't necessarily gay but simply uncool.
What to use then? Bags with no straps and - if weight makes it necessary - a handle.
Bill's case is OK in my book as long as it has no straps but the sheer amount of gadgets in that thing frightens even me.

I would never.ever. wear something that is named after female genitalia.

Did you ever?
And I neither want to look like a tourist nor like a mule.
