I guess I'm different from a lot of people as I tend to buy things I really want even though there's minimal chance I'll get to use it in my lifetime. ;-)

No you aren't but some people either evolved beyond that stage or have less money to buy as much stuff! ;-)

You should post some updates on your project, by the way!

You'll definitely get updates - simply to sustain my personal motivation!
In the case that I stall at some point - which would be a pity given the material I already have - I need moral support and where better to get that than here? ;-)

Some time ago I thought about blogging the whole process but decided against a live blog because of three reasons:

a) I personally loathe hyping *and* not delivering so I don't want to excite people for a long time and then disappoint them. On the other hand I don't think that many people will really play the thing in the end and the real entertainment for most would lie in watching somebody struggling to create something original! ;-)

b) There are already several good blogs about RPG creation in existance. Even for retro platforms like the one our friend adamantyr does. They are fun to read and they all seem to be in the implementation stage already.

c) I'm in the planning & design stage right now - which will continue for at least the next 12 months - and though I could debate endlessly about details (you believe that part! ;-) I don't think that neither me nor the public would really gain from that. In fact I think that it would be to the detriment of my project: Other people are less polite than me and have no scruples to steal good ideas!
Some fellow may incorporate them and I will not only be late but the audience gone also. I believe that there's a reason most of the "RPG bloggers" don't blog about the content but only about the game engine & stuff...

So for the next year or so I'll keep mum about content details (setting, world, plot etc.) and discuss more or less abstract RPG/games theory and technicalities here and in other blogs/fora.

However, when I thought about the above reasons I came up with the idea to create a "diary blog" that will be made public and accessible in the future so people could read about the creation process that already took place. Like a movie making-of - just to show how and when some ideas materialized and what effect they had in the process. What to scrap and what to keep etc. etc.
While in the implementation phase - probably of interest to a different crowd anyway - I would be open to comments as the "creative part" (the design stage I have to fight through myself) will then be defeated for the most part.

I already have reserved a nice name on the blogspot platform and will post interesting stuff on the project there, I think, as I like this idea better and better!

BTW, for the whole project I schedule three years minimum (it will probably take longer) so you can see that I'm either working very slowly or a I'm a megalomaniac. Or perhaps both...
