I must say I don't much care for these modern Japanese shooters. It seems they are primarily concerned with throwing a bazillion bullets at you, and you must find a path between the bullets to get ahead, almost like a maze game! They actually seem LESS action-packed than the old, adrenaline-fueled blast-a-thons because of the "maze of bullets" approach. Just my opinion, though.

I'm with you there. I'd rather play a rousing Galaga-style game any day over a bullet shooter, though the better designed and less hectic ones have a certain "poetry" to them in avoiding the bullets. I just hate the games where you're pretty much forced to get hit.
