Well - we got a Wii and the wife is into 360 as well. The Wii is also good for playing cheap Game Cube games - you need a game cube controller with that. I recommend getting the official Nintendo Wavebird wireless GC controller. Excellent - also for Virtual console gaming.
My wife Elise was a bit intimidated with the 360's multitude of buttons on the controller and the Wii with nun-chuck was way more accessible. After playing Zelda - the twilight princess she swiftly moved on to the old N64 Zelda's. Not afraid of the 360 controller she's become an avid Live Arcade gamer.
Recently she's even picked up the controller to have a go at Colin McRae Dirt - and she's not bad at it! The plus-part about it is that the wife and I get some quality time playing games but the downside is that the consoles may very well be occupied at times I want to play them. ;-)
What does often happen with the Wii is that people are enthusiastic about it for a couple of weeks, then it gets shelved and collects dust. The Wii is one of the machines with the lowest adherence numbers - in other words people get the Wii but are not buying additional games. A good think Nintendo is making money on the actual consoles as well.
