Well, the deal is that Elizabeth's friends have been trying to "convert" her to Wii, and apparently it's working because she always mentions it when Sam's gets them in. One of my gaming colleagues here also talks it up a great deal. In short, I feel motivated because it's unusual for the wife to be hinting at something game-related; if she's showing interest, that may turn out to be a good thing. She doesn't play WOW, but we did have fun playing Donkey Kong Country a few years ago and we also play Worms on the Dreamcast every once in a blue moon. She's also a huge fan of Mario Kart, and I've heard there is a new one for the Wii.
If it were just for me, I'd go with a 360, but the Elizabeth angle here might push me towards the Wii.
That was what I was asking. That's a valid reason for getting one, and it's not like you even need a hi-def TV for it, as it doesn't receive much benefit from one like a PS3 or 360 does. It's a fun system, and if you're careful with the games you get and manage your expectations (don't try to recreate a 360 or PS3 experience on it), you'll have a great time with it. Also, from your standpoint, they'll be releasing the Sam & Max games and Homestar Runner point and click adventure games via Wii-ware (game download service). It's a good light gun game platform and of course it emulates older systems, like the NES, SNES, N64, Neo Geo, etc., though you obviously have to buy each game. Hopefully you have a wireless router, because it has built in wi-fi. I definitely plan on getting the latest Super Mario Kart myself, as I've been in love with the series since the original Super NES version (plus it comes with a kooky plastic steering wheel to stick the Wiimote into). Here's what I have so far for the Wii:
Carnival Games
Excite Truck
Ice Climber - NES - Virtual Console
Link's Crossbow Training
Mario Strikers Charged
MLB Power Pros
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Resident Evil 4
Super Mario Bros. - NES - Virtual Console
Super Paper Mario
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Wii: Play
Wii: Sports
The majority of those games are well worth the price of admission...
Wii: 1345 2773 2048 1586 | PS3: ArmchairArcade Bill Loguidice, Managing Director | Armchair Arcade, Inc.
