The DS might actually be a better choice--I can see how that stylus would work very well for this sort of game.
I'm more concerned about perspective than translating mouse movements, though certainly that's a plus. The 2D perspective for usable maps/boards has always been my preferred viewing method. I even play electronic chess with the boring old 2D board simply because the 3D boards still don't give me what I consider the best view. The LucasArt's game, Wrath Unleashed, which was a modern reimagining of Archon for the PS2 and Xbox (and maybe PC), was RUINED because of an unclear 3D board. They could have very easily made a nice flat, 2D board and kept the combat elements 3D, but they just had to do it in 3D. While those Xbox 360 screenshots of Civ Revolution are quite beautiful (cartoony style or not), I'm just not sure how playable they are. Interface-wise, I'm confident it will be quite playable with a game-pad. Nevertheless, if most of the features are there and the hardware is capable of processing all that goes on in an hours-into-it Civ game, the DS could be the best console version.
By the way, the Wii version was scrapped because they couldn't make the 360/PS3 elements work properly on it. They said that they would need to make an optimized version specific to the Wii. I'm surprised they just didn't make an uprez'ed DS version, though I've found the Wii-mote a poor substitute for the the stylus, particularly in games like Cooking Mama and even Trauma Center, which I happen to own and enjoy on the Wii regardless.
