I don't think the list is extensive enough. While I'm not saying that you need to go into the genre detail from my recent article, I think you either have to have a very specific list, meaning removing "Other!" and just have a comparison among a small pool of genres, or go all the way and list them all (a la that article). For instance, I chose "Other!" because my favorite genre is probably sports games, which for many often includes racing games. If "sports" does indeed encompass racing games, then for me, it pretty much seals the deal. While my fondest memories are mostly from classic computer RPG's and arcade style games, I'd have to say I've most consistently had the most fun with sports games, particularly baseball games, be they statistical or action-based (though I've put a lot of time in with golf and hockey games too, but I've played most sports a LOT). If you throw racing games in there, be they "Mario Kart" or "Burnout" or anything of the same ilk, then it's no contest.
While I also am a great admirer of the text adventure art form and enjoy such games, I can't list them as my favorite as the player is at the whim of the game author in regards to parser interaction, often leading to frustration. Finally, if RPG's had maintained the same momentum they had from the peak of SSI's pre-Gold Box and Gold Box era, that genre would have certainly finished closer to the top for me, if not to the top. RPG's are just too "different" these days from what I originally fell in love with. Same thing with shoot'em up's in my case, actually. I prefer the "simpler" early arcade style shooters rather than the over-the-top million bullets and explosion games with flashy displays of today. Again, the case of a genre evolving into something very different that I just don't enjoy as much. Finally, I would NEVER consider "FPS" a genre, even though the "S" implies "shooter" specifically. It's just a perspective. That perspective is often used in a shooter, but today it's just as likely to be an RPG or any other genre. Heck, even sports games have first person modes. In any case, there really aren't straight "shooters" anymore anyway, as most games too have well evolved beyond the "Doom" archetype into something with rather more depth.
