Good Old Games

So I got my Good old Games http://gog.com invite today, created my account and checked it out.

I'm guessing its going to replace current game download sites (that I could never get to work with its funky client etc)...

DRM free game downloads seem pretty cool, they have Fallout 1 + 2, apart from that its a really small catalogue right now..

Ultima III Gold C-64 (C64)

Surfing around I ran into this page here. Some amazing guy has enhanched and recoded much of Ultima III for the c64.

So much so, he compressed the original two disks into one disk. Apparently the code was really bad, they left most of the Apple II stuff un optimised, the text notes that the graphics were internally in Apple II format in RAM and were converted on the fly each time the tile was blitted to the screen.. Yikes. No wonder it was super slow.

Anyway, this version plays so much sweeter.

I also like the removal of the forced Sosaria world map save!

7th Link

I started playing the 7th Link last night to get a feel for it, to see if this is the game I'd like to blog next.

It feels big, and from some of the meager info I can find online, I don't really know if I want to spend the '200 hours'! required to play the game. Thats a lot of hours and I'm sporadic at best to playing.
