Mark Plays... Some VIC-20 Classics (1hr extravaganza)

In this video I play quite a few of the classic arcade ports and well known games on the Commodore VIC-20. I grabbed the footage using a Pioneer HD-DVD-Recorder that allows me to grab the footage on the HD or directly on CD-R, DVD-R or DVD-RW. I use the latter so I can reuse the disc after I imported the files off the disc (a simple copy of the mpg stream) into

Okay it turned into an over an hour long extravaganza playing the games until the first game over and me babbling about the gameplay and the technology involved. Read more below...

Mark Plays... Android2 (C64, Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Gameboy Advance)

A little gem of a game originally brought out by Vortex Software on the ZX Spectrum, also ported to the C64, Amstrad CPC and even a remade version on the Gameboy Advance (as an entry in a demo competition). In this video I check out all the versions.

Preview Of The Upcoming TEK807D Android Gaming Handheld

On May 10th I got the chance to take a look at the soon to be available TEK807D Android Gaming Handheld. I take a look at the JXD S7300 and the Archos Gamepad for comparison and show what's better in this new TEK807D device. This video is a hardware overview and a look at the specs as well as seeing the device in action in a sneak preview of it. It is going to be sold in various places in the world under a different brand name. Yet inside the device is the same. Sellers can brand the unit and customize how the specs are. Like a rear viewing camera, battery size etc. It's expected to launch in Europe this summer for €150 or under $200 US.
Read more about the hardware specs below.

Mark Plays... Silpheed (PC / MS-DOS)

Silpheed is the name of the ship you fly in this 1988 game released on MS-DOS, it was originally developed on the PC8801 & FM-7 computer systems and later ported to MS-DOS, Apple II and the Tandy Coco (!!!). I originally encountered this game first on the SegaCD/MegaCD but that was a remake of the original shown here.

A great sequel called Silpheed: The Lost Planet came out for the PlayStation 2 and I just happen to own that game as well so another video with that will probably pop-up eventually.

There's also a Silpheed game on the xbox 360 which is called ' Project Sylpheed' .

Mark Plays... Pure (Xbox 360)

Pure was published in 2008 for the Xbox360, PS3 and PC by Disney Interactive Studios and it was developed by Black Rock Studios. Here I play the xbox 360 version. This game has a very nice trick system that gives the gamer speed boosts and the chance to perform even more tricks in mid air. The emphasis is on the tricks in this game. Read more below...

Mark Plays... Gradius II - Gofer no Yab? (PCEngine)

A great game from the Gradius series, this is the Gofer Gradius II game on cd-rom running on the Duo-R/PCEngine console. There's also a port of this game on the MSX systems. One of the amazing features of this game is the giant suns and firebird on the first level. Hard as nails!

In 1985 Konami released a great game called Gradius (also known as Nemesis) in the arcades but also on home computer systems and consoles. It was heavily inspired after Scramble which was released in 1981 and is considered the precursor or start of the series. In this video I play all the MSX cartridges that I own of the series. There are more games for the MSX though and a whole plethora on other systems as well. One of my favorite shmup series.

Mark Plays... Mad Riders (PC)

A great Quad / ATV arcade racing game published by Ubisoft and developed by Techland. It's available on both PC and Xbox 360, as well as PS3. I like it a lot, it's wacky and over the top, and defies all laws of physics. A fun game.

Mark Plays... Ridge Racer V (PS2)

Ridge Racer V - is the 5th game in the Ridge Racer series on the Playstation line of consoles. This actually was one of the launch titles the PS2 was graced with and it is quite similar to Ridge Racer Type IV on the original Playstation or PSOne. It plays a lot faster and is more twitchy and it took me some time to get used to but it also showed a promise of things to come as Ridge Racer VI and VII obviously built opon the foundations laid in this game. A must play if you are a fan of the Ridge Racer series.

Mark plays... Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (PC)

Written by the now gone Bizarre Creations, Geometry Wars originally could be found on the original Xbox was a mini game within the Project Gotham Racing 2. This game is the sequel to it and it was the most downloaded game on Xbox Live on the 360. For me this game was the must have game for the Xbox 360. Check it out.

The Sequel Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 was released on the 360 but also on the Wii and the DS. There's also a version out on iOS.

MIND YOU: This clip has some loud noises so you'd better not use headphones while watching this. Sound quality is not the best as the microphone had some issues that couldn't be fixed in post.
