Dig Dug Digging Strike.

What all is there to say about this game.
Well let’s start with my expectations. The DS can offer many things to games. Well suited for a 2d game this combination should produce a slam dunk. Certainly you notice my use of the word Should right?

This leads me into my story.
Looking for this game became a small quest. Once I decided that it was next on my list to get I found the title not readily available. When I did find it the price of 29.99 staggered me. OK I know that that’s a “normal” price but hey this title is not new. Thus I begin a longer search for the used copy. Hey 10 bucks off after a few games get me more games. Enough suffice it to say I am monetarily challenged.
DS games around here are not plentiful, well used ones at least. My quest turned into a long one but luck strikes and I find a new copy for 19.99, Now that’s a price I can do.
With excitement I get this title out. Show it off to a friend who is still reluctant to buy a DS to perhaps persuade him (He was quite impressed) as was I.

The initial look over is great it is a mixture of 3D (Top screen) and 2D bottom screen play. It features a story mode and 2 player mode (no 2 player done by me). The story mode is in the Mr. Driller style. Very cartoony and those that like Mr. Driller will be pleased. I like Mr. Driller and Dig dug but would prefer a separation. But over all I can stomach the link between the two.
Overview.
You are either moving on the top or the bottom attempting to defeat the large boss type characters. For those that have not seen this title I will explain a little. Take the look of Dig dug 2 (arcade) for the top screen and then take a graphically enhanced normal Dig dug for the bottom. What seems like a great merge turns into a mish mosh of annoyance.
You are attempting to sink by use of the 2D dig dug drilling giant spikes that fracture the top screens 3D island. Timing is important to do this as the boss moves around and you have to ensure the spike crashes down at the correct time. 1st problem with the game if you sink the island but miss the boss no penalty given you just get to start over. This type of event diminish the fun of the game. With out true consequence the game quickly becomes boring. Often I found myself quitting games while still in the level. Also you need to pick up many special items strewn throughout the 2D dirt so you can change the direction of the Spikes cracks thus sinking the sections of the island. When you evoke a special Mr. Driller come out to aid you in a top screen event.

Specials new items and new bad guys this should be a great game but like all other incarnations of Dig dug it simply fails to deliver.

I have plans to expand on this review but at this time I do not recommend the title.
